Fidani and Wittmer drive stellar race advancing from P18 to P3
After a challenging mid season the AWA team and drivers Orey Fidani and Kuno Wittmer rallied to secure a podium position to finish off the 2021 Pilot Challenge season.
Fidani qualified the McLaren 570S GT4 18th in class, uncharacteristic after a string of solid qualifying performances. He knew he had his work cut out for him and brought his A game on race day, steadily moving up the leader board, holding first place when pitting for driver change.
With the final stop complete and Kuno Wittmer in with enough fuel to go to the end, it was time to start making up ground on teams that took an earlier stop. Had the race stayed green most of the field would have to have pitted again to take fuel, however that wasn’t what happened. Multiple full course yellows lead to the most yellow filled race of the year and allowed all the early pitting cars to make it to the end.
That didn’t stop Kuno Wittmer from doing what he does best, executing behind the wheel. Clean passes brought the car home P4 at the stripe, promoted to P3 after a competitor failed to meet minimum weight in post race inspection.
A roller coaster ride of a season culminated in 3 podium finishes, 2 wins and 2 pole positions, ultimately securing 5th place overall in the championship.
The team now prepares for Daytona 2022, with exciting news to come, stay tuned!
