Green and Wittmer win exciting battle to the finish at Mid-Ohio
Following a last minute call for Chris Green to step in for Orey Fidani while he awaits arrival of his newborn son, Green wasted no time getting up to speed, making the most of the limited practice time and qualifying P2, leading up to the 2 hour race.
Strategist Trevor McClure made an exciting call to box Green early from the lead, minimizing pace loss due to significant TCR traffic ahead, keeping Green in until the final fuel stop. After final stops shook out, Kuno was P5, and better on fuel/tires than the top 2. Kuno drove a flawless stint, avoiding any contact while driving the McLaren 570S GT4 to the front and taking the teams second win of 2021!
Team principal and engineer Andrew Wojteczko said “We rolled off the truck with a fast 570S that allowed us to focus on drive time for Chris and Kuno instead of chasing setup. Everyone on the team executed flawlessly, and that’s really what it takes to have a chance in these races, these wins don’t come easily or often. I’m very proud of the team and looking forward to Watkins Glen. I’m also extremely grateful to have had the opportunity to campaign the car in Ohio despite Orey not being able to make it, many would have just skipped the event entirely, so to be able to do this was greatly appreciated.”
AWA leaves Mid Ohio leading the team championship and Kuno Wittmer leading the drivers championship, but it’s still anyone’s to win at this point with 7 rounds remaining.
