McLaren Toronto 570S GT4 with Fidani and Green

AWA to campaign McLaren Toronto 570S GT4 with Fidani and Green starting at Road America

Caledon East, ON, July 30 2019

AWA Racing Team today announced that Orey Fidani and Chris Green will complete the 2019 IMSA GS championship in a McLaren Toronto 570S GT4. The driver pairing re-unites the two drivers, who each won their class in the 2015 Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge Canada, and puts Green, McLaren’s Canadian National Brand Manager, back behind the wheel of the 570S GT4, which he campaigned in 2017.

When asked about the change of vehicles, AWA team owner and engineer Andrew Wojteczko said “I want to thank Porsche Motorsport for their support of the new 718 Cayman this season, the car ran every session so far without any reliability issues – an impressive feat for any car in endurance racing, particularly in its first season. Recent testing, however, indicated the 570S GT4 has the performance potential to be more competitive in an evolving category, so we elected to evaluate it for the balance of the 2019 season. The staff at Mclaren Toronto have been instrumental in making the switch in a very short period of time, making sure we have all of the parts needed to be ready to race this week.”

The mid-season change also sees an updated driver lineup. “Scott Hargrove is a natural talent behind the wheel,” said Wojteczko, “and I know the results up to this point don’t reflect his true potential. As a Porsche Selected Driver, Scott is unable to compete in the McLaren; so we’re thrilled to welcome Chris Green alongside Orey Fidani to complete the season. Orey has been running great opening stints all season and his immediate comfort level when testing the McLaren indicate great things to come.”

Orey Fidani has been fast and consistent all season

“Off track action sometimes moves as quickly as on track action. I am beyond excited to get back in the McLaren 570s GT4 with AWA and Orey Fidani who have proven to be extremely competitive given the right platform. My past with Orey dates back to his very first time in a Porsche GT3 Cup car in 2013, before he took the plunge into the Canadian GT3 Cup Challenge, where he won the gold class in 2015. It has been great to see him progress through different series and ultimately make his way into the Michelin Pilot Cup series with AWA. I look forward to getting up to speed with Orey and AWA in the McLaren, our first outing out will be Thursday at the incredible Road America circuit .” said Chris Green

“ The last race I competed in was at Road Atalanta in 2017 where we won running a 570S GT4, so I am excited to get back behind the wheel of this brand new car that AWA have been working feverishly on since the decision was made very late last week. The support from McLaren and AWA has been impressive and we are all looking for a strong result in our first outing this weekend”

“The McLaren has definitely been the car to beat this year and I believe that with the right platform AWA, Orey and I will be competitive from the get-go. A track like Road America is definitely a fitting track for this racecar”
