After Covid forced changes to the team’s 2020 plans, shifting focus from IMSA to the Canadian GT Sport championship where Orey Fidani swept the season and clinched the championship, AWA racing with drivers Orey Fidani and Kuno Wittmer now prepare to return to IMSA to contend the Pilot Challenge championship in 2021.

Fidani swept the 2020 Canadian GT Sport championship

Kuno Wittmer: “I am very excited on being back with the AWA squad. I discovered this talented team in late 2019 and have been impressed with them ever since. The team chemistry is something very real and strong. Sharing the McLaren with Orey is also a blessing. He has shown great pace and consistency, together we will push hard for that top podium finish. Our goal of fighting for top honours, in this ultra competitive championship is very realistic and achievable.”

Wittmer remained active in 2020 testing with the team and coaching Fidani to his 2020 GT Sport Championship

Andrew Wojteczko, AWA team principal: “We can’t wait to get back to IMSA competition. Our team and driver lineup remains unchanged from 2020 and I have no doubt this consistency will help us quickly return to form at Daytona in just a few short weeks. We are very fortunate to have fantastic technical and parts support from both McLaren customer racing in the UK and McLaren Toronto, an important part of any championship campaign. I’m confident we have all the pieces in place to fight for the top spot in this championship.”

Pit stops and strategy are an important part of IMSA racing and the team has been training hard to remain the fastest in pit lane
