Daytona Season Opener

Fidani and Hargrove take to the high banks in the new for 2019 Porsche Cayman GT4 Clubsport MR

35 Car field makes for non stop action in the IMPC series.

Following a successful test at the Roar Before the 24, the AWA racing team returned ready to compete at the Imsa Michelin Pilot Challenge 4 hour race preceding the 24 hours of Daytona.

Scott Hargrove handled qualifying duties and took the green flag for the start of the 4 hour race. IMSA mandated reduced fuel cell capacities meant fuel stops approximately every 40 minutes and after a clean first stint Fidani was in for stint 2. Fidani ran a clean stint, making some great passes and posting competitive times lap after lap. The race went full course yellow and Hargrove was back in for Stint 3 to the end.

Contact from isolated incidents took both the #13 and the #60 out of contention

Running inside the top 10 with pace to challenge the leaders asides from the McLaren’s, contact to the right rear of the #13 Cayman added 0.5″ toe in and failure of the right rear tire followed 3 short laps later stranding the car in the infield.

The car was towed back to the garage and the team immediately began repairs, resetting the alignment and getting the car back on track, scoring precious championship points. A disappointing outcome to an event that was showing great promise. The team leaves hungry for more and will seek redemption at Sebring March 13-15th 2019.
